Electrical Tape: Its Different Types

An electrical tape is a type of adhesive tape which can be used to insulate electrical wires and other materials that conduct electricity. Mostly vinyl is used to make this tape because it can stretch well and give an effective and long-lasting insulation. Depending on your specific need, you can choose from the following varieties of electrical tapes:

Vinyl electrical tape: A vinyl electrical tape is made of soft, stretchy vinyl which can conform to the connection, forming a safe, secure insulating wrap. This tape comes in a wide range of grades, sizes and colors for any application ranging from general purpose to automotive to aerospace. You can use this tape for cable marking, jar and can sealing, decoration and much more.

Polyester mylar electrical tape: A polyester mylar electrical tape is thin and conformable, making it a perfect choice for wrapping coils, capacitors and potentiometers. This tape also has excellent abrasion resistance, which makes it ideal for dissimilar metals separation.

Teflon electrical tape: This tape can be used in a wide range of applications where superior electrical resistance is needed. A teflon electrical tape can withstand temperatures ranging from 40°F to 500°F. It is perfect for over-wrapping high voltage coils in a wide range of applications.

Fiberglass cloth electrical tape: A fiberglass cloth electrical tape is woven from fiberglass cloth, which offers excellent temperature resistance, conformability, chemical and solvent resistance. This tape is perfect for wiring harnesses and high temperature non-electrical applications.

Self-fusing silicone rubber tape: A self-fusing silicone rubber tape is a stretchy, non-adhesive rubber tape that bonds to itself and is the perfect tape for toolkit. You can use this tape to cover splices, wrap harnesses and fix small leaks in hoses.

Cloth friction tape: This tape is made up of black cotton cloth with a non-corrosive rubber resin adhesive. It is very flexible. A cloth friction tape is ideal for wrapping wires, cables and harnesses to protect them from damage due to abrasion or handling.
