What is Internet Marketing?

Internet marketing, also known as online marketing, is the process of advertising or promoting a brand, product or service over the internet. The broad scope of internet marketing also includes email marketing, electronic customer relationship management and any other promotional activities that are done through wireless media.

Internet marketing can be broken down into the following more specialized areas:

Search Engine Marketing: This type of marketing promotes a business through paid advertisement that appears on search engine result pages and includes paid placement, contextual advertising, and paid inclusion.

Search Engine Optimization: This type of marketing uses the unpaid and natural process of promoting content on search engine result pages. This may include keyword research and placement, link building and social media marketing.

Social Media Marketing: This is the process of promoting a website through various social networks like Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Facebook and more.

Affiliate Marketing: This is a type of marketing practice wherein a business pays an e-commerce site or online retailer for each visitor or sales that it makes for its brand.

Display Advertising: This type of marketing refers to advertisement banners that are displayed on other websites or blogs to boost traffic and increase product awareness.

Email Marketing: As the name suggests, email marketing is a marketing process that involves reaching out to customers via email.

Inbound Marketing: Inbound marketing involves the sharing of free valuable contents to a target market and convincing them to become customers. Inbound marketing can be done by setting up a business blog.
