An Overview of Different Types of Double- Coated Tape

A double-coated tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that can be generally fabricated in several types of materials, including paper, foam and cloth. It is commonly used for bonding and sealing a variety of similar and disparate materials and substrates.

Here are some of the different types of double-coated tape:

General-purpose double-coated tape: Made from polyester, paper or tissue, this tape is economical and easy to use. It provides permanent bonds on smooth, lightweight materials including uncoated papers, clay-coat papers, thin plastics and some foam. It is perfect for envelopes, signs, bags, etc.

High-performance double-coated tape: This tape offers superior strength that matches or exceeds mechanical fasteners and structural adhesives. It is the perfect solution for permanently bonding most metals or plastics. It also works well on exterior signs, metal trim, light truck bodies or wherever extra strength is needed.

Hi-Lo tape: This is a double-coated tape with a permanent adhesive on one side (hi side) and a removable adhesive on the other (lo side). This tape can perform excellently under a wide range of temperature and humidity conditions. It can be used to make re-closable bags, temporary signs and displays and removable labels, or to position materials during machining.

Double-coated foam tape: This is a strong double-coated tape with a soft foam core. The thicker the foam core, the better it is for rough or irregular surfaces or for filling in gaps. A double-coated foam tape is perfect for signs, displays, auto body trim, toys and product assembly.

Carpet, flooring and molding tape: This tape can hold carpets, rugs and other sheet flooring in place on a temporary/semi-permanent basis. It is ideal for store displays, trade shows, theatrical performances or movie/television sets.

High-temperature double-coated tape: This tape can operate at temperatures ranging up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit on a continuous basis. It allows for attachment to heat sinks, engine blocks, solar panels, etc. It can be used wherever high temperature is present.

On what considerations are lead shielding requirements calculated?

Lead shielding requirements are calculated and determined on the basis of the following considerations: energy potential, workload, orientation/direction, distance, occupancy and type of material for wall partition or floor. All lead shielding requirements should be calculated by an expert.

Considerations for Lead Shielding

All lead shielding requirements need to be determined by a certified professional radiation health physicist. The amount of lead shielding required must be calculated properly, depending on the source of radiation, the type of machine used and where it is located. The goal is to ensure that maximum radiation protection is achieved.

Here are some considerations to help understand what factors determine lead shield requirements for diagnostic imagining and radiation therapy:

Energy & Exposure:  The energy potential of the machine determines the lead shielding requirement—the higher the output of the machine, the higher the lead shielding required. The amount of exposure per week, month or year should be determined, as well as the maximum patient volume growth, as radiation is cumulative and overexposure causes biological damage on the cellular level. Check the local governing health and safety law and codes for current compliance requirements.

Orientation/Direction:  The primary beam target of all wall lead shielding should be calculated by a physicist, in relation to the direction where the radiation is aimed and will scatter.

Distance & Occupancy: The closer a partition is to the radiation/x-ray source, the higher the shielding requirement because radiation dissipates more as distance increases. A very important part in the calculation is the amount of time, per day, a surrounding room similar to the x-ray room will be occupied by personnel or public. The lead shielding on wall and floors should increase with the level of occupancy.

Type of material: Heavy density materials such as concrete, steel and plaster can shield radiation to some level. The type of construction material used for wall, partition and floor can reduce the requirement for lead shielding.

How are lead shielding requirements calculated?

Lead shielding requirements are calculated by a certified professional radiation health physicist. The expert calculates the proper amount of lead shielding required on the basis of certain considerations like the source of radiation, the type of machine used and where it is located. What factors should be considered to buy the right size welding cable?

To choose the correct size, 3 factors should be considered:

·         Measure the total length of the welding circuit, including the full length of both the electrode and work cables.
·         The welder’s rated electrical output should be incorporated in the welder’s model name.
·         Check the welder’s duty cycle, which is the percentage of a ten-minute period that the welder will operate at a particular output current before exceeding its thermal limit.
