Why is Lead Used for Protection from Radiation?

X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans and other radio pharmaceuticals equipment are used to detect improper functioning of internal organs and to cure certain diseases. However, overexposure to the radiations emitted by these types of equipment can be dangerous. Therefore, to regulate the intensity of radiation scattered by these equipment, they are shielded with lead.

Lead is one of the most valued and trusted of all materials used for shielding. It is dense and can be used against various high-energy applications of radiation, including gamma rays, x-rays, and other types of nuclear radiation.
