Applications and Types of Foam Tape

Foam tape comes in a variation of properties like density, thickness, adhesive type, and cell structure. These properties make foam tape suitable for a great variety of end uses and applications. It is extremely flexible and conformable for joining irregular surfaces. Foam tape has high bonding strength because it is moisture and ultraviolet rays resistant. It usually comes in rolls and has a removable backing that is peeled off immediately prior to application.

Foam tape is commonly used as gasketing tape. Adhesive-coated foam tapes are compressible sealants that close up an area between two matched machine parts or around pipe joints to prevent the escape of a gas, fluid, air, or sound. Another common application of foam tape is as a weather-stripping material. It is frequently placed along doors and windows to keep cold and hot air outside. Foam tape seals the gaps, offering a solid, long-term, cost-effective solution to replacement.

Single Coated Foam Tape
Single coated foam tapes have adhesive coated only on one side. They are made from many different materials that are used in a wide range of gasketing and weatherproofing, shiming, protective packaging applications. They can also be used for noise and vibration cancellation. Single coated foam tapes areavailable in many different widths and thicknesses. They serve to seal or separate two surfaces without actually bonding them together.

Double Coated Foam Tapes (Non-transparent)
While many foam tape applications require adhesive on one side only, double-sided foam tape is also available. This is often used when the two sides that are joined by the tape are not expected to be moved. Double-coated foam tapes are designed to provide superior adhesion to a wide range of surfaces. The thickness of the foam lets it fill in any imperfections in the surface it’s being applied to. They are available in almost any width as well as several thicknesses to suit any application.

Double Coated Clear Foam Tapes
Clear foam tapes are the perfect way to join glass and other clear rigid plastics without seeing the tape. They can be cut to any width or die cut into custom shapes for ease of use in production. They also work great on colored plastics, smooth metals, and painted surfaces.
