Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the
means to improve a website’s ranking in search engines such as Google, Yahoo,
and Bing. Every business wants to get a higher rank in the search engine. There
are four basic SEO principles that play a major role in pushing a website up
the search engine, allowing it to rank higher and therefore boost website
traffic.
Keywords
When you create your website content, keep
in mind the keywords that people use to search. Build every page around keywords
that are most important to you and your company. When you produce pages for
your website, make sure to use the keywords on every post.
If you need help with keywords, use Google.
When you start typing into the search bar on Google, it gives you suggestions of
popular words or phrases that people use in a search. You can also use a tool
called Google Keyword Planner that provides you with popular keywords. It will
give you the exact numbers of how many average searches are occurring monthly with
those keywords.
Meta
description
A meta description is a sentence that appears
right below the URL on the search page. It
is an important and brief summary that tells people about that page. It should
therefore be engaging and truthful and prompt people to click and read more.
Use call-to-action words like “learn” and “visit” to engage people and
encourage them to find out why the information on your page is important to
them.
Image
tags
When you have images on your website,
Google indexing sites need to understand what those images are and when they should
be served up. Therefore, tag your images. If there are no tags, Google does not
know how to identify the images.
Backlinks
Backlinks have very high importance in SEO.
They are incoming hyperlinks from one webpage to another. Make sure that you do
not add too many backlinks for an article.
