Characteristics of Adhesive Tape

Adhesive tape is a narrow strip of material primarily used to stick objects or materials together. It is non-sticky on the outer facing side, while the inside of the tape is coated with adhesive. Because of its pressure-sensitive adhesion properties, it can stick to itself or other materials with ease, making it the perfect solution to hold or seal things.

With adhesive tape, you do not need mechanical fasteners. This makes the manufacturing or packaging process much faster. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about screws and fasteners damaging the surface.

Adhesive Tape Materials and Uses
Adhesive tape is made from several materials such as plastic film, cloth, foam, metal foil or paper. Each variant has a unique composition which has special uses for specific applications as required.

Plastic Film
Adhesive tape made from plastic film comes in two types – thermos plastics and thermostats. It comes in transparent, colored or printed forms. Sometimes it is combined with aluminum or paper. It can be single-layered or multilayered, according to the needs of the application.

Cloth
Adhesive tape made from cloth materials has high heat resistance and is exceptionally strong. Sometimes it is used as a fabric layer to add strength to the tape.

Foam
Adhesive that uses foam as its carrier is called foam tape. It is highly useful for mounting objects on the wall, weather-stripping, sealing, etc.

Metal Foil
Adhesive tape made from metal foils like aluminum and lead can weather extreme temperatures and humidity. It is also heat resistant.

Paper
Adhesive tape made from paper is scratch resistant and commonly known as flat back tape. It is excellent for printing logos or instructions on the tape. You can even write on it.

Characteristics of Adhesive Tape

·         Unlike free-flowing adhesives, adhesive tape can be applied specifically on the required surface of the application.
·         You can easily remove the tape when it is no longer required, without leaving a mark on the surface.
·         Unlike mechanical fasteners, adhesive tape can be wound several times around the surface that requires more bonding.
·         It can be customized as per the requirements of your application and manufacturing needs.
·         It involves no chemical bonding.
·         Adhesive tape possesses electrical insulating properties.
